[Osomatsu may have come to Nevei Forest with Marie, but he's attending the Firialia Eve Ball alone. he's distancing himself from her and her group for a variety of reasons, and they all are sad.

he's so homesick, for the holidays. it wasn't like his family was particularly religious, or anything, but they did celebrate Christmas. sort of. with a gift exchange. with money they got from their parents. so it was just like their parents bought the gifts anyway.

Osomatsu has been trying to get a grip and ignore how sad he is. he's been watching the theatre troupe, while nursing a fancy cocktail. also, he's dressed up, but he doesn't look too happy. when someone smiles at him, he smiles back. but when he's alone, his expression is pretty sour.

he doesn't realizes he's walked over and standing near a familiar face at first, sighing and leaning against the wall. he doesn't drink often, so he might already be getting a little buzzed off his fruity drink]

_{[ Gintoki isn't one for big, fancy parties. It's really something having to do with his poor guy syndrome and how much he dislikes expensive things (probably cause he's jealous of their income.) Nevertheless, he's attending this one because he simply can, and he had traveled out of the city with Sadaharu and everyone else, but like always, he was rooming alone.

He had managed to get a hold of some nice attire himself (though he has pants on.. for now.)

Osomatsu has shifted towards the bar where Gintoki is at, not paying attention to his surroundings and already pretty drunk himself. He's been arguing with the bartender over who knows what and when he catches Osomatsu in the corner of his eye with a cocktail, he can't help but pipe up. ]}

Hey, heyyy, shut up. You're too young to be drinking, who the hell gave you that..!?

_{[ Maybe the drinking age is different here, but still. ]}

[shut up? but he didn't say anything! Osomatsu's head snaps towards the familiar voice. oh, it's the nosy old man that seems to know too much about him. is he drunk?]

I'm old enough!

[he sways, pointing at Gintoki accusingly]

I'm an adult!

Just 'cause your b*lls dropped doesn't mean you're an adult, dammit! Besides, what shit have you got to be drinking over, ehhhh? Seriously, do you even know what you're drinking?

_{[ However, his voice drops considerably after that and he slaps the seat next to him. ]}

[don’t ask him a whole bunch of questions then dismiss them! Osomatsu wanders over, growling, but he sits anyway. he’s lonely]

[he knows he smells kind of old... a faint musty smell that is almost like when you go to your grandparents' house. he doesn't stink, but Gintoki knows what he's talking about.

for a moment, Osomatsu eyes the drink, then works on finishing the one he's holding before setting down the glass and reaching for the next]

It can't be that bad? What would you know? You just got here.

What could you be going through that led you to drink, ah?

_{[ Osomatsu is right. Gintoki hasn't been here for long, but there's people back home he needs to protect. ]}

[of course he misses his family! but that isn't what finally broke him. he looks down into the drink, swirling it]

_{[ Gintoki turns more properly in his seat to face his company, half lidded eyes looking at Osomatsu. ]}

Did you lay it on thick? Or did you not even speak to her?

[eh? what the hell is he talking about? Osomatsu leans back, almost falling off the seat]

_{[ Gintoki seems genuinely interested to know. He's a little more expressive when he's drunk and maybe the way he moves closer indicates some interest. ]}

[Osomatsu seems to settle a bit, looking less irritable, but still pretty pathetic]

..Marie has... so many friends, yanno? A-and these guys an' girls... she's really close to them.

D-don't misunderstand! She's been nothing but kind to me, and I don't even know why. At the same time, she feels... untouchable. Like, I don't know. I don't want her to forget about me, even though it'd probably be better for her if she did.

[now he's just mumbling]

She's always surrounded by people who love her... It's kind of intimidating.

Why's that? You're hard to forget. I mean, Japan made a whole reboot when your original manga was in 1962. Dude, that's decades, and it's still a hit.

If you're that worried about it, do something, uhh, you know.. do something.. great and memorable for her that she couldn't forget. If you're out of ideas.. just.. read some JUMP.. see what those heroes do.

[it's amazing that that is what Gintoki took away from Osomatsu's garbled mess. it's amazing he could make any sense of the slurred speech coming out of the teen's mouth.

Heroes... JUMP heroes... they always get the girls, right?

_{[ He sounds salty about this, but his lips are curved upwards in a mischievous grin. ]}

Aaaa, whatever, whatever. Gin-chan doesn't need a close tie with stuff like that. I'm too cool for the last ten chapter rush where the writer has to pair up everyone up real quick. It's fine.

But, I dunno, man. If JUMP doesn't work, read some Ouran Highschool or something and see if you can get ideas of what to do and what not to do from that.

[this isn't going to solve Osomatsu's problems at all... but he's drunk, and kind of wacky, so he's not going to argue]

The only thing I remember from Ouran Highschool is that blond guy talked about using his pinkie to cushion his teacup before setting it down on the table.

Is that something girls pay attention to?

_{[ It's kind of cute how desperate Gintoki wants to hook Osomatsu up with someone, honestly. ]}

[Osomatsu looks excited for a moment, then realizes that becoming fancy goes against everything that he stands for, against every fiber of his being.

he reaches for more alcohol, but there is none. he drank both of his cups!]

But... I don't wanna be fancy! I love Marie, but I'm already puttin' on dresses for her. I don't wanna have to change everything.
