Sure ya do.
Does anyone know what's up?

Why should I work for somebody I don't know crap about?
Why should I even work?
[ that part is muttered, but you know. She probably hears it. ]
no subject
Is anybody forcin' ya? Do they do anythin' if ya just don't bother?
[ She knows you, Gintoki. You still accept the missions because you hope that you'll actually be able to help. Because this is precisely the thing you usually do.
It just seems that ALASTAIR works a little differently. Where Gintoki would topple governments and fight nature and time itself if necessary to try and get his way, ALASTAIR is more concerned with something like a bigger picture. From what little she knows of them.
That isn't at all how Gintoki operates.
She wonders if there's a right or wrong in any of it. ]

Home to Edo.
Home to the city and the people he loves so much. ]
—It's just part of the job.
I don't back out from any jobs, no matter how big or how small.
[ even though he was complaining earlier, it's obvious he didn't mean any of that.
She doesn't need to know (though she may have an idea) of how much he misses where he belongs.
In the city he is destined to protect. ]

Even from her point of view, he seems out of place in Nalawi, even if he easily makes odd friends wherever he goes. ]
So stop whinin'.
[ Of course she knows it wasn't serious. Doesn't make it not annoying.
Whiny baby. ]

[ .. And we can go back home together. ]
After all, I just know doing Odd Jobs with.. company.
[ The company of his underlings.
The two people that make him feel alive. ]
no subject
[ What else would that mean? Of course she'll help him.
Considering all the times he's helped her, she can't just say he's on his own. Especially since they only have each other, here. ]

—Thanks. I knew I could count on you...

[ Not hitting him this time but, seriously, don't tempt her. ]
If anyone's doin' all the hard work, it's you.
[ She outranks you. Even if you've never worked under her, when it comes to investigations, she's the police chief. You're just the boss of an odd jobs store. ]
no subject
Geez. I never thought I'd have you as my subordinate.
[ the hard worker is the boss, right? You're gonna call him boss..!? ]
no subject
[ That's how it works.
Sure, she also does some hard work herself, but her main job is telling her troops where to go and advicing them on what to do. ]
no subject
Well, that sucks. You seem like you'd be awful to work for.
[ please why does he talk.. ]

[ you'll never learn that doesn't really make him stop, right? ]
Glad we could settle on something at least.
no subject
Just let me know if there's anything ya need.
[ And she'll do the same. It's not like only one of them is going to do the work. ]
no subject
[ A pause. Then, his voice is sincere. ]
Thanks..
Having a pretty girl like you with a pure soul from home helps.
[ Helps? Helps with what? ]
no subject
I dunno how that helps anythin'.

So he doesn't want to worry.
So he can keep his promises.
Gintoki is aware that there's probably another one of him back in the timeline, like there is another Tsukuyo and another Hijikata, but the thought that maybe he has actually gone missing makes his stomach twist.
There is a city— a bunch of people he needs to protect. ]
—It just does.
Don't think about it.
Let's work together and focus.
no subject
That's fine. She's not going to think about it. She understands the sentiment, and then it's just ... It's Gintoki.
He's like this. ]
Didn't hafta tell me.
no subject
Well, I did.
You're stuck with me whether you like it or not.
[ A pause. Gintoki rises from his seat and begins to step away, as if he was heading elsewhere to do something else.
And then: ]
I have faith in somebody like you.
no subject
But that's fine. She won't follow him. ]
It's mutual.
