First things first: I officially apologize for some of the crass and crude behavior this character gives off— he sometimes comes across as kinda sexist too. Gintama is a very, very, 4th wall breaking series. Gintoki takes part in this regularly, referencing the show/series/manga and is self aware they are characters and that he is the protagonist of a Shounen JUMP. He also will reference other mangas and series and... pretty much anything. He also might even recognize your character, especially if they are from a popular Japanese series.
